This extraordinary helmet mask with its complex symbolism and well-executed carving is unique in its style and imagery reflecting the skills of a talented and skillful sculptor from among the Gola of Liberia and Sierra Leone. This mask is best described as a semi-helmet mask in that it will fit over the head but is more akin to a face mask than a full casque or helmet style mask.
